(Yes, it might look like I'm doing something strange here, but trust me, I was just trying to keep my sleepy baby awake long enough for a picture. And let's be honest, Aliyah's face says it all—she thought it was hilarious.)
"The real and remarkable thing is letting go of perfection and starting to become who you truly are."
~Anna Quindlen
We often chase perfection, setting impossibly high standards for ourselves and our loved ones. It’s like chasing that elusive pot of gold at the end of a rainbow—always just out of reach. We push harder, expect more, and inevitably fall short. But why does this happen? Why is there such pressure to be perfect or flawless? In reality, isn't imperfection part of what makes us human and unique?
Yesterday, we finally got around to taking our Christmas photos. They're not what you'd call "holiday-themed," and that's okay. We didn't wear red either—it's not a big deal. But in my head, I had this vision of the "perfect" photo—a square hole for our round family—and I tried to force it for maybe five minutes. Then, my kids reminded me yet again that perfection isn't about flawlessness. It's about embracing who we are—messy, lively, and all. I decided to stop trying to fit everyone into someone else's idea of perfection and instead focus on capturing the beauty in our imperfect moments. And honestly, it felt pretty great.
I’ve come to accept that I don’t need to be perfect—I just need to be me. My kids have taught me that life doesn't need to be perfect to be beautiful. It's the everyday moments, the laughter, the chaos, and even the occasional silliness that make life perfectly imperfect.
Now, I want to celebrate the beauty in the little things—the imperfect, the unpolished, the authentically human. Because sometimes, those are the moments that matter most.
