Isn't it amazing how something as simple as mini pom poms can bring so much joy? Recently, we made a bunch of these for a special project I'm working on, but guess what? The kids couldn't resist getting their hands on them! They're soft, fluffy, and just the right size for tiny fingers to grab and play with. Even better, making them is super easy—so easy that both my kids managed to craft a few of their own within minutes. Talk about turning a kitchen utensil into a crafting tool!
Supplies Needed //
Yarn
Scissors
A fork
Step One // Start by cutting a short length of yarn, maybe six to eight inches long. This will come in handy later when you’re tying everything together.
Step Two // Wrap your yarn around the prongs of a fork. The more wraps you do, the thicker and fluffier your pom poms will turn out. For kids, three dozen wraps should be enough to give them a sense of accomplishment. If you want a really full pom pom, aim for around sixty wraps. It might take some practice to get the hang of it, but trust me—it's worth it!
Step Three // Once you've wrapped the desired amount of yarn, take the shorter piece of yarn you prepared earlier and slide it through the middle prongs of the fork. Use it to tie a snug knot around the wrapped yarn.
Step Four // Tie the knot tightly, but don’t finalize it yet. Carefully slide the wrapped yarn off the fork, keeping the tied string intact. Pull the ends of the string tight and complete the knot. Trim any excess yarn connected to the ball of yarn.
Step Five // With your scissors, carefully snip through the loops on both sides of the tied string. Gently fluff up the pom pom until it looks full and even. Voilà ! Your very own mini pom pom is ready to go.
These little pom poms are incredibly versatile. Hot glue them onto hair clips, barrettes, or even a plain hat to add a pop of color. Imagine stringing them together as a garland for holidays like Valentine's Day or Christmas—or even create a festive pom pom tree for the holidays! They’re also great for school projects or party decorations.
