First, the young pear orchard:
1. Continue to focus on shaping the young pear trees. A well-structured tree is essential for both fruit quality and yield. It's recommended to adopt the "dwarf, upright, and happy" tree type, which features a central trunk with 2–3 main branches. This structure is especially suitable for coastal areas and helps protect against typhoon damage.
2. Pay close attention to fertilization and irrigation management. Proper water and nutrient supply are crucial for the healthy growth of young trees. By maintaining high standards of fertilization and watering, the trees can develop a strong framework quickly, leading to early fruit production. The fertilization principle is "fertilize frequently but in small amounts." Apply fertilizer every 20–30 days. In the early stage, nitrogen-based fertilizer is primarily used, followed by phosphorus and potassium. Each tree should receive about 4 kg of compound fertilizer and 0.1 kg of phosphorus-potassium fertilizer. Spread it around the roots when the soil is moist.
3. Focus on pest and disease control. Common diseases include "pear black spot disease" and "black spot disease," while pests like "pear hibiscus," "pear fruit borer," "beetles," and "caterpillars" are also prevalent. To manage these, a mixture of "Insecticidal" diluted 3000 times, "Daisheng" diluted 600 times, and 0.2–0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be sprayed in the evening. Repeat the spray every 15–20 days for effective control.
4. Ensure proper drainage in the orchard to lower the groundwater level. During the rainy season, keep the ditches clear and ensure smooth drainage to prevent waterlogging.
Second, the orchard that has entered production:
1. Be attentive to the fruit thinning process. Removing excess fruits ensures better development and higher quality of the remaining ones.
2. Increase fruit enlargement fertilization. Based on the tree's age and fruiting condition, apply additional fertilizer between early July and mid-July, ideally in two stages. Each tree should get 1–1.5 kg of 45% compound fertilizer to help the pears grow larger and improve their quality.
3. Continue to monitor and treat pests and diseases. With the orchard in full bloom, the risk of pests and diseases increases. The same pesticides as those used for young trees can be applied, but the spraying must be thorough and precise to reduce damage and ensure the production of high-quality, pesticide-free fruit.
By following these practices, the orchard will not only maintain good health but also produce more and better-quality pears.
