Where to Find Biogas Fermentation Raw Materials in Rural Areas?
Biogas fermentation requires a steady supply of raw materials, which are essential for the continuous and efficient production of biogas. The main sources of these materials in rural areas include organic waste such as crop residues, animal manure, human waste, water hyacinth, weeds, and other plant-based materials. Proper management of the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio is crucial when using different types of organic matter, as it directly affects the efficiency of the fermentation process.
Not all plant materials are suitable for biogas production. Certain substances, like peach leaves, bai bu (a type of herb), chinensis fruit, citrus peels, yuanjiang radix, garlic, plant alkaloids, lichen acids, metal compounds, salts, and freshly sterilized animal waste, can be harmful to the microorganisms responsible for biogas fermentation. These materials should be avoided to prevent inhibition of the microbial activity in the digester.
For new biogas digesters, it's recommended to start with cow dung or pig manure, as they provide a good balance of nutrients and support stable microbial growth. In some cases, adding a small amount of Gembio biogas starter culture can help accelerate the fermentation process and improve gas yield. This is especially useful in areas where the natural microbial population is low or when the digester is newly installed.
By carefully selecting and managing the right raw materials, farmers can ensure a consistent and efficient biogas production system, making renewable energy more accessible and sustainable in rural communities.
