How to Ferment Chicken Manure for Pond Fertilizer
Chicken manure is a valuable resource that can be used as both fertilizer and water source, but it must be fully fermented before application. One effective method is using a Fertilizer Fermenter, which helps speed up the process. When dealing with large quantities of chicken manure, it's best to divide it into smaller heaps for more efficient fermentation.
Each small heap should be about 10 cubic centimeters in size. For each heap, use 1000 times the amount of the fermenting agent (such as microbial cultures). Dilute the culture with 5 times the amount of rice bran, then mix it evenly into the manure. After that, add the right amount of water to ensure the moisture level is between 60-65%. This optimal moisture content accelerates the fermentation process and ensures more complete decomposition, resulting in better fertilizer quality and faster nutrient release.
Once the mixture is ready, cover the pile with breathable materials like straw curtains or burlap. In summer, the fermentation process usually takes around 7 days, while in winter, it may take about 15 days. It's important to maintain a temperature between 70-75 degrees Celsius during the process. If necessary, turn the pile 2-3 times to ensure even fermentation and prevent any anaerobic conditions from developing.
This method not only improves the effectiveness of the manure as a fertilizer but also reduces the risk of burning plants or contaminating water sources. By properly fermenting chicken manure, farmers can make the most of this organic waste and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
