Meat-loving women have a higher risk of colon cancer

Asahi Shimbun reported that through the National Cancer Research Center's research, women who eat meat are 1.5 times more likely to develop colon cancer than normal people. This result was obtained from a follow-up survey of about 80,000 men and women aged 45-74 years old in Osaka, Iwate, Ibaraki, Niigata, Niigata, Nagano, Kochi, Nagasaki and Okinawa. Prior to this, in Japan, where there was less carnivorous meat than in Europe, there was no result of a study on the causal relationship between colon cancer and meat.

In this study, during the follow-up period, 714 men and 431 women with colon cancer were divided into five groups and a comparative survey was conducted on the amount of meat consumed.

The results showed that males in the 130-gram group of meat products, including ham sausage, received a 1.4-fold higher risk of colon cancer than men who consumed only 20-gram portions of meat per day. Women who ingested 90 grams of meat products such as beef and pork daily had a 1.5 times higher risk of colon cancer than women in the 10 grams group.
