How to fatten meat rabbits

Fattening method

The fattening methods of meat rabbits can be roughly divided into two methods: the young rabbit fattening method and the adult rabbit fattening method. The method of fattening the young rabbits means that the pups start fattening after weaning. At the beginning of fattening, gregarious grazing can be used so that the young rabbits have the opportunity to fully exercise to promote health and promote bone and muscle growth. Ten to fifteen days later, the cage-fed method can be used for fattening. It can be slaughtered for 30 to 35 days and weighing 2 to 2.5 kg. Adult rabbit fattening refers to the elimination of rabbits with a shorter fattening time before slaughter to increase body weight and improve meat quality. The fattening time is generally not more than 30 to 40 days and can increase body weight by 1 to 1.5 kg.

2. Fattening technology

(1) Eat less meals. In the fattening period, the meat rabbits usually show poor appetite due to reduced exercise and the feed is mainly concentrated. In order to increase appetite, the principle of less frequent meals should be mastered to increase the intake of food.

(2) Finishing feed. The fattening feed for meat rabbits is dominated by concentrates, supplemented by green ones. The most suitable fattening feed is corn, barley, bean dregs, bran, sweet potato, etc., and need to add appropriate amount of bone meal, salt and other inorganic salt to feed. Requirements of feed containing cellulose 15%, crude protein 17%, fat 2.5%.

(3) Careful management. Due to lack of exercise and light during the fattening of rabbits, meat rabbits have poor resistance and are prone to illness, so they must be carefully managed. Regular inspections and regular cleaning must ensure that rabbits can eat, eat well and rest well and have a good health condition.

(4) Castration fattening. After fattening the male rabbit, the fattening effect can be increased by 15%, and at the same time, the feed consumption can be reduced. Usually castrated 8 to 10 weeks after birth.

(5) Limit exercise. In particular, meat rabbits in the latter part of the fattening period should limit their exercise. It is best to keep them in a small cage that can only accommodate them to promote weight gain and fat storage.
