Nanjing: Reporting Lies on Food Safety Accidents Will Report Accountability

Recently, the Nanjing Municipal Government of Jiangsu Province issued the “Measures for the Assessment of Food Safety in Nanjing (Trial)” and the “Responsibility System and Accountability Measures for Food Safety in Nanjing (Trial)”. From this year onwards, the city will be held accountable for false reports, false reports, and delays in reporting food safety accidents, and will be held criminally responsible.

The "Measures" clearly stipulates that major food safety accidents have occurred in the administrative areas of Nanjing; major food quality and safety problems have occurred; they have been exposed by national media or investigated and dealt with by relevant state agencies, and have caused serious social impact; and food safety accidents have not been reported. Anyone who commits fraud, falsification or poor handling causes an increase in the impact of accidents, serious loss of personnel and property, will implement a one-vote veto. The district (county) and departments that fail to pass the assessment will be given criticism, put forward rectification comments within a time limit, and investigate relevant personnel's responsibilities in accordance with relevant regulations. Each district (county) people's government has reported 10 kinds of acts such as food safety accidents. The city will, depending on the circumstances, instruct the person in charge to order written examinations, circular criticisms, ignorant talks, warnings, demerits, or demerits; if the circumstances are serious, Give a demotion, dismissal, and dismissal. If violations of laws, regulations, or violations of discipline are committed in food safety work, party discipline shall be given to the party’s disciplinary and procuratorial organ for handling; if suspected of committing a crime, it shall be transferred to the judicial department for investigation of criminal liability according to law.
