Acupuncture standardization is closely related to internationalization

Business Club November 25th

Acupuncture and moxibustion is an important component of traditional Chinese medicine. According to legend, Fuxi “has tasted 100 drugs and made nine needles”. The acupuncture treatment method was formed during a long historical process, and its academic thought gradually improved with the accumulation of clinical medical experience. The Huangdi Neijing, Difficulties, Acupuncture and Acupuncture, Acupuncture and Moxibustion, and Acupuncture Dacheng have shown the achievements of acupuncture and moxibustion. After the founding of New China, the state formulated a series of policies to develop the cause of traditional Chinese medicine, which has brought about a new increase in acupuncture and moxibustion, and began to pay attention to the international development of acupuncture and moxibustion.

The internationalization of acupuncture is a welcome process

Due to the magical effect of acupuncture, Chinese acupuncture was introduced nearly 1,500 years ago to Japan, North Korea, and Vietnam. After the Second World War, acupuncture and moxibustion not only began in Asia, but also began to develop in Europe, America and other continents. There has been an upsurge of internationalization. At present, there are more than 140 countries and regions in the world that carry out acupuncture and moxibustion medicine. Acupuncture medicine has become part of the world's medicine.

Acupuncture and moxibustion are used in the Chinese Antarctic Scientific Investigation Station. There are also Chinese acupuncture clinics in the Arctic Circle. Acupuncture has spread all over the world. The trend of acupuncture and moxibustion development in the future will not be an increase in countries and regions, but will be further popularized and improved in countries and regions that already have acupuncture and moxibustion, so that people in these countries and regions will receive more and better medical services for acupuncture and moxibustion.

In more than 140 countries and regions, Asia has developed well. If Vietnam has more than 20,000 people engaged in acupuncture, it has a higher status. There are quite a number of people who have acupuncture licenses in Japan, but not all of them are open to business, but as a supplement to their main business, acupuncturists, acupuncturists, and acupuncturists are no less than 100,000 people.

Outside Asia, there is a pattern of acupuncture development that is not the same as domestic thinking. In the past, we believe that the characteristics of “simple and inexpensive” for acupuncture and moxibustion determine that economically underdeveloped countries are easy to accept. However, this is not the case. Acupuncture and moxibustion are most likely to be accepted by developed countries. Underdeveloped countries such as Africa, although they also have acupuncture, have not developed satisfactorily. Acupuncture has developed rapidly in the United States, Canada, and some European countries, while Africa and Latin America have experienced slow development. This shows that in developed countries, although there are many modern medical treatments, there are many diseases that cannot be solved, and modern medical methods and living conditions cause new problems, but they are more likely to receive acupuncture and moxibustion therapy. The United States currently estimates that there are more than 20,000 people engaged in acupuncture and Austria has more than 5,000 people. It is estimated that there are probably 200,000 to 300,000 people in the world engaged in acupuncture.

Entering the 21st century, the trend of human aging is becoming more and more obvious. Many chronic diseases are more common, and calls for return to natural therapies are increasing. Natural acupuncture and other natural therapies are responding to the call of the times. China's entry into the WTO has provided a good opportunity for the spread and development of Chinese medicine and acupuncture in the world. Faced with some problems in modern medicine, many developed countries have already taken note of the merits of traditional medicine, began to increase research efforts, and advocate the integration of traditional medicines and medical instruments that have been verified by modern science into the current medical system and coordinate them. The relationship with mainstream medicine forms the development strategy of "integrated medicine".

Acupuncture "standard dispute"

Why is there a "standard dispute" for acupuncture? Because standards mean authority and strength. The reason why acupuncture points in China have become "international standards" is mainly due to the fact that China has complete ancient books and records and a unified national standard. Facts have proved that acupuncture standardization is the only way to achieve internationalization. Only by occupying the commanding heights of international standards can we rejuvenate and promote acupuncture.

Acupuncture and moxibustion is a medical science created by the Chinese nation and is also a gem of the world's medical forest. Thousands of years, it has been alive and uninterrupted, showing a strong vitality. It should be said that the vast majority of acupuncture theory, diagnosis and treatment techniques, etc. are all original creations of the Chinese nation and are an important source of independent innovation in China. Digging out the potential of acupuncture is not only a contribution to the Chinese nation but also a contribution to the people of the world. However, in the process of going global, Chinese medicine has encountered great difficulties. An insurmountable obstacle is that the standardization of acupuncture has been seriously delayed.

To this end, China must quickly formulate national standards for acupuncture and medicine. China's national standards in this area should be higher than international standards. Let international standards be aligned with Chinese national standards. This not only concerns the ownership of China's core cultural heritage, but also affects cultural influence, political influence, and global market issues.

Fortunately, our government has recognized the importance of the standardization system of Chinese medicine. On July 1, 2008, 11 national standards for the operation of acupuncture and moxibustion were issued by the National Standardization Administration and the General Administration of Quality Supervision and Inspection and Quarantine, including moxibustion, scalp acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, triangular needles, cupping, acupoint injection , skin acupuncture, intradermal needles, acupoint application, acupoint catgut embedding, and "Auricular name and positioning." This move has far-reaching significance in promoting the widespread spread of acupuncture in the world.

There are many problems in the standardization process of acupuncture

At present, some of the diseases that have been confirmed with efficacy have begun or completed the mechanism study. For example, researchers have been able to determine areas in the brain where patients receive traditional acupuncture and other medical treatments by using techniques such as functional magnetic resonance imaging. The latest achievements in neuroscience, neuropsychological medicine, and behavioral medicine will all be applied to the development of interdisciplinary and new fields in traditional medicine. However, most acupuncture and moxibustion studies will still remain in the confirmation of efficacy; the scientific method of research is still one of the important issues. The clinical trials based on randomized controlled and blinded trials will be carried out more widely. There is a large sample of objective statistical value. Research will gradually increase.

To further study and promote acupuncture, the other important issue to be resolved is the objectiveness and standardization of acupuncture techniques, the alignment of acupuncture lines, the positioning of acupoints, the implementation of techniques, the compatibility of acupoints, and the standardization of these links. The study of modern acupuncture has brought great difficulties.

Since 2000, the domestic standardization of acupuncture and moxibustion has been further strengthened. The State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine has successively initiated the major project “Acupuncture and Acupoint Research of the People's Republic of China” and the standardization project “Revision of National Standards of the Point of Acupoints” and “ Acupoint Indications, "Development of National Standards." The series of research results obtained by these projects have been highly evaluated by reviewing experts and have laid a good foundation for the standardization of acupuncture at home and abroad.

Since 2005, the State Council’s standardization administrative department and Chinese medicine management department have vigorously supported the formulation of acupuncture standardization projects. In addition to the above-mentioned national standards, 25 acupuncture standards have been included in the National Standards Committee's National Service Standard 2005-2008. Development Plan, and the formulation of these 25 national standards were started in two batches in 2006 and 2007 respectively, and 11 of them have now entered the standard approval stage. The 11 national standards for acupuncture and moxibustion have been submitted to the World Federation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (hereinafter referred to as the World Acupuncture Federation) at the same time and will be used as a Chinese program for the formulation of relevant international standards to advance the international standardization process. At the same time, the Western Pacific Region of the World Health Organization is organizing the development of the International Standards for the Positioning of the Acupoints by the three countries of China, Japan and South Korea. Chinese acupuncture experts have substantially participated in the formulation of this international standard and have achieved remarkable results. .

With regard to the development of standardization organizations, the WHO Western Pacific Region Office has been the organizing department for international standards for acupuncture and moxibustion. The World Federation of needles, established in 1987, has made important contributions in assisting the WHO Western Pacific Region in formulating the above-mentioned international standards for acupuncture and moxibustion.

The World Acupuncture Federation is headquartered in Beijing and has served as chairperson by Chinese experts. In 2005, the World Federation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Societies established the International Acupuncture Standards Working Committee, which is responsible for the formulation, promotion and promotion of international standards for acupuncture and moxibustion.

In China, the Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society established in 1979 is a national acupuncture academic group under the China Association for Science and Technology. The formulation and promotion of national standards for acupuncture and moxibustion has always been one of the key tasks of the Chinese Acupuncture Society. In 2005, the Chinese Society of Acupuncture and Moxibustion established the "Standardization Committee of the Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society" and the "Standardization Project Management Office of the Chinese Acupuncture Society." It is responsible for the overall management of acupuncture national standards and industry standard formulation (revision) projects. In March 2007, the National Standards Committee [2007] No. 32 document approved the establishment of the National Standardization Technical Committee for Acupuncture and Moxibustion.

After the successful application of Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion, the establishment of acupuncture standardization system is a question that must be considered. The most important question is: Which parts of acupuncture are suitable for standardization? They should be included in the plan as soon as possible, and they should be established early and implemented as early as possible; which parts are not suitable for standardization, especially those that can not be used in acupuncture clinics For the acupuncture problem identified, the standardized form should not be overemphasized, so as to avoid the risk that the characteristics of acupuncture will be “standard”. Only in this way can we dispel the concerns of some people in the industry - whether "standards" will limit the use of the surgeon's mind and the skills of the men's hands, so that the "standard" can really exert its function of promoting the development of disciplines.

In addition, for the proposal of international standards development projects, we must have a sense of forward-looking. Take the education standards for acupuncture as an example. Compared with domestic needs, foreign countries are more urgent to issue standards for acupuncture education, and we need to respond positively to this. To this end, it is particularly important to strengthen the study of international standardization and response strategies. Only by setting the characteristics and advantages of Chinese medicine as far as possible using standards, striving for me as the mainstay, and formulating more international standards, can Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion go better to the world!
