At the forefront of the international arena, it also represents the "fourth revolution" of cardiovascular intervention in the treatment of coronary heart disease in China. A new generation of fully degradable stents will enter the clinic and will benefit more patients with coronary heart disease.

According to scientific research, in fact, coronary stents do not need to be installed in the body for a lifetime. They themselves have a "service" cycle. After 6 months of interventional coronary artery, the stent has completed its mission and can be "returned". Let the blood vessels return to their original appearance. However, the traditional metal stent is not degradable due to the material, even if the task is completed, it must be with the heart for a lifetime. Academician Ge Junbo introduced that traditional metal stents stay in the body for a lifetime, sometimes stimulating inflammatory reactions in blood vessels, and even life-threatening consequences such as stent thrombosis.

The stent is constructed of a polymer lactic acid-based material to construct a rapamycin drug release platform, which is completely degraded and absorbed within 2-3 years of implantation, and is different from the traditional metal drug stent. The design concept is: a period of time after stent implantation It mechanically supports the narrow coronary vessels while releasing the drug to prevent restenosis. After that, the stent is slowly degraded and completely absorbed by the tissue, and the vascular structure and the systolic function are completely restored to a natural state. Professor Ge Junbo also said that the fully degradable stent developed by China itself has a great benefit for patients, that is, it will be more cost-effective.
